Extensions questions:

1. MOST IMPORTANT... THE RIGHT AFTERCARE INVOLVES?

For a comprehensive guide on our recommended aftercare routine, please see the Hair2Love recommended aftercare (opens in new tab). Proper aftercare is utterly essential for maintaining the integrity, beauty, and longevity of your hair extensions.

2. Are Hair Extensions Damaging for My Hair?

The perception that hair extensions inevitably damage one's natural hair is a common misconception. When premium-quality hair is utilised and applied by a qualified professional, coupled with diligent aftercare, the risk of damage to your natural hair is minimised. In fact, when managed appropriately, hair extensions can facilitate the natural growth of your own hair (check out this link to Amy's natural hair growth) while providing enhanced length and volume.   At H2L Extensions, many clients opt for Keratin Bond extensions, a technique that is often mischaracterised as damaging. Contrary to this notion, Keratin is applied close to the hair root where your hair is healthiest and most resilient. The bonding process involves a temperature of 200 degrees for a mere two seconds, which is actually less heat exposure than your hair would typically experience during a regular straightening or curling session. Thus, when executed correctly, this method is designed to be gentle on your natural hair.

3. WHAT IS THE TINY KERATIN BOND METHOD?

The Tiny Keratin Bond Method is a refined and contemporary adaptation of the more traditional Fusion Method. Utilising a hot Keratin application, this technique allows the stylist to create bonds of custom sizes. For instance, needle-thin bonds weighing approximately 0.2-0.3 grams per strand can be crafted to enhance and elongate the fringe or side areas. These are strategically placed as close as possible to the facial region, where hair tends to be finest and most fragile. This placement is crucial, given that the facial angle is how one sees oneself in the mirror, as well as how one is viewed during face-to-face interactions.

In addition to needle-thin bonds, we offer micro-size bonds (approximately 0.5 grams per strand) and standard-size bonds (roughly 0.7-0.8 grams per strand). These are typically used in less visible areas and are roughly the size of a grain of rice. Given its discreet nature, we consider the Tiny Keratin Bond Method to be the most inconspicuous pre-bonded approach available today.

4. WHAT QUANTITY OF HAIR DO I NEED?

The amount of hair you'll need varies based on the length you wish to achieve and your natural hair density. For those looking to add just a few inches, or seeking additional volume or colour variety, 2-3 packs of hair are generally sufficient. Conversely, if you have short, dense hair and wish for length that extends below your waist, 8-10 packs may be necessary. Typically, clients transitioning from shoulder length to 20-24 inches require around 6 packs of hair for a natural, full-head look.

5. HOW OFTEN DO I NEED HAIR EXTENSION MAINTENANCE SESSIONS?

Maintenance sessions are generally needed every 12 weeks, although this may vary depending on your natural hair growth rate. These maintenance appointments comprise two stages: firstly, the removal session, where your extensions are taken out, treated, and re-bonded; and secondly, the re-fit appointment to securely attach the treated extensions.

6. CAN I PUT MY HAIR UP WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS?

During our initial consultation, we will assess your specific needs, habits, and styling preferences. This includes how you usually part your hair and your go-to methods for putting it up. This thorough discussion ensures we set accurate expectations and provide clear guidelines on what can be achieved with hair extensions. For those with natural hair that reaches shoulder length or longer, a wide array of updo styles can be comfortably achieved.

7. CAN I COLOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS?

Colouring the extensions is generally not advised. We recommend that you have your natural hair colour-matched prior to the fitting appointment for the best result. While the extensions are made from 100% natural human hair, they have already undergone chemical treatments. Adding further colour could compromise the hair's quality and shorten its lifespan.

8. HOW LONG WILL MY HAIR EXTENSIONS LAST?

The longevity of your hair extensions is directly linked to your aftercare routine. With proper care, you can expect your extensions to last significantly beyond 12 months.

9. HOW ARE HAIR EXTENSIONS REMOVED?

The removal process for hair extensions varies based on the method of application. For Keratin bonds, an alcohol-based spray and pliers are utilised to specifically target and break down the bond, facilitating easy removal without harming your natural hair. For tape-in extensions provided by H2L, rubbing alcohol spray is used for effortless detachment.

10. CAN I SWIM WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS?

While swimming with hair extensions is possible, caution is advised. Exposure to salt water, hard water, or chlorine can lead to discolouration and frizz, which could damage the extensions. To mitigate these risks, it's advisable to saturate your hair with diluted conditioner before swimming. Afterwards, rinse your hair thoroughly with clear water and apply a damage repair hair mask, such as the Hair2Love Intensive Damage Repair Mask, for optimum care.
